Context

Aging data-center infrastructure carried both a cost problem and a resilience problem. A disaster recovery test measured in days is not a plan.

Approach

We migrated in waves ordered by risk, starting with workloads that could tolerate a bad day and finishing with the systems the business could not run without. [verify: cloud provider and approximate wave count]

Disaster recovery was architected in from the start rather than bolted on, with replication and failover tested on a schedule instead of assumed.

Cost governance ran alongside the migration: rightsizing, reserved capacity, and retiring what the move made unnecessary.
